TRA-GHETTO, THE HELL
OF BOLOGNA
Those
who wish to explore and know better the places and the spaces around them,
undertake each journey with a feeling of excitement.
TRA-GHETTO crosses space and time because time is the best friend
of space, his blood brother, his Siamese twin: if they hadn't been separated
at birth, they would still be joined at the thigh, at the hip, for a bit
(G.L. Favetto da Diario).
The emotions that are aroused in the spectator/traveller are different
from person to person, according to age, to curiosity, to knowledge of
our traditions and our history. TRA-GHETTO, however, will help everyone
discover how enjoyment, how comedy can be used to learn or how tragedy
affects the unconscious and brings back memories of collective or personal
sorrows.
TRA-GHETTO
will allow young people to experience the historical roots of our city
while the stories of Bologna's Area Opere Pubbliche will be magically
materialised by the actors from Società per Azioni and by the musicians
from the Vladah Klezmer Band.
The crew and the passengers of TRA-GHETTO will start from Piazza San
Martino and come down to the Aposa River, to that marvellous great portico
underneath that will become the theatre (in the most literal sense of
the word) of an unforgettable experience. For convenience simply classified
as "a guided visit".
In this way the spectator will become the main character. His/her visions
will come true and he/she will be able to meet in person the people who
have worked on the projects to restore some of the most prestigious buildings
of our city, of our history, of our common roots.
Just like Smeraldina, one of the "Invisible cities" of Italo
Calvino, Bologna is a city where a network of canals and a network of
streets overlap and intersect. Where in order to go from one place to
another there is always the choice between the land route and the water
route. It is incredible that in only 50 years the dense network of canals
that served the entire city, has been almost completely covered making
it invisible
Another mystery will also be revealed in TRA-GHETTO: the real origins
of the Divine Comedy, the starting point, the spark that awakened the
foggy mind of a Dante Alighieri who was absorbed in family troubles and
affected by a long, profound creative crisis caused by the death of Beatrice.
This "spark" will be revealed to the public in flesh and blood
(more flesh than blood), in the figure of Onorina Pirazzoli, the proto-
Bolognese, the Neo-Muse of the greatest poet reawakened from his sluggishness
thanks to her.
In this way Dante's Hell blends with Via dell'Inferno (Hell Street),
in the Jewish ghetto, where the languages of music and theatre will create
emotions, in a unreal journey where everything mingles in the rushing
waters of the Aposa River.
The
Aposa is the only natural water course that passes through Bologna, therefore
it was on her banks that the first inhabitants of the area decided to
found what is today our city. Up to a few centuries ago the Aposa was
the only source of energy produced in the area. When the river-bed was
dry, it was the same as an energy blackout. Thus the well-being of Bologna
is linked to the river.
The Aposa is torrential and many Bolognese people have the same nature:
they are able to work and produce positive energy and well-being. They
are also capable, however, of overcoming any type of difficulty with their
own initiative and enthusiasm if they are obstacled or not respected.
Actually all mothers pass on their genes to their children and we are
children of the Aposa.
Società per Azioni which
has thought up this event would like to pay homage to that mother.
